As the Biden administration continues to face mounting criticism from conservative commentators and political opponents, a provocative theory has gained traction in certain political circles: that former President Barack Obama is secretly influencing or even controlling many of the current administration’s most controversial policies. Some critics go further, alleging that Obama is the mastermind behind what they view as the “destruction” of America under President Joe Biden. While this idea lacks formal evidence, it has become a powerful narrative among segments of the American right.
Those who support this theory argue that many of Biden’s policies mirror those initiated during Obama’s presidency. From climate change regulations to expansive federal spending, immigration leniency, and the revival of social justice-driven executive actions, these critics claim the similarities are more than coincidental. They point out that many officials who served in the Obama administration—such as Susan Rice, Antony Blinken, and others—hold senior positions in the Biden White House. For them, this is proof of Obama’s continued influence behind the scenes.
Proponents of the theory often describe Joe Biden as a “puppet” or a figurehead president who lacks the cognitive strength or political will to govern independently. In their view, Obama, as a charismatic and strategic political operator, has stayed deeply involved in shaping the direction of the Democratic Party and the federal government itself. Some go as far as claiming that Biden’s presidency is essentially Obama’s “third term” by proxy.
The phrase “destruction of America” refers to concerns among conservative voices about a perceived decline in national unity, economic stability, border security, and international influence under the Biden administration.
