Warning: this story contains spoilers from the April 23 episode of Survivor.
One of this season’s Survivor contestants lost more than just the chance at $1 million when they were eliminated from the competition.
David Kinne was eliminated from season 48 during the Wednesday, April 23 episode and he gave an update on something he’d shared earlier in the season — that his girlfriend would not be continuing their relationship if he didn’t come home with the prize money.
Given his elimination, Kinne confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that his girlfriend was “out the door” just “a few weeks after she found out I didn’t win” the season.
“People probably laughed at that whole thing, [but] it was unfortunately true,” he said.
Not everything is looking down for Kinne, 39, though. He told EW that he’s now dating someone new, who he called “the most incredible woman.”
“She’s phenomenal. I’m truly feeling blessed right now,” he said.
In fact, in hindsight, he admitted, “I’m almost glad I didn’t win a million dollars.”

On the April 23 episode, Kinne was voted out at Tribal Council. He told EW that he felt “blindsided” by the news because of his alliances on the show, adding: “There are so many emotions going through that moment, and the worst part about it is I truly believe they got it wrong. And you can see I believe that in the edit. And so it was heartbreaking to me because I truly was doing everything I could to keep my alliance intact. I was the ride or die kind of guy. I was going to go to the end with them.”
When Kinne’s casting on this season of Survivor was announced, he celebrated the news in an Instagram post as he said his experience on the “hit show” was “nothing short of surreal.”
“I CANNOT WAIT for everyone to see what this season brings!” he wrote.
