Unlimited age in Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific
Quang NamGolf Nadele Gole (56 years old) and Nguyen Bao Chau (12 years old) competed with three Major tournaments, when appearing in Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific (WAAP) this week.
Gole is the oldest golfer in the Asia -Pacific amateur championship (WAAP), and Bao Chau is the youngest. The distance between them is 44 years old.
Nadene Gole is from Australia, experiencing the illustrious career lasting for more than four decades, and Bao Chau has just started the journey in golf. Their appearance at Hoiana Shores, Quang Nam became the inspiration for fans as well as golfers of all ages in the region.
Both are not expected to win at Waap – where the reward for the champion is the attendance of three Major women. However, being present at the prestigious playground for these amateur golfers has been a proud achievement.
“I am very happy to play with talented young athletes. At the age of 56, I don’t need to prove anything, but I cannot miss this opportunity.
Last year, Gole dominated the elderly golf village, winning both R&A Women’s Senior Amateur and US Senior Women’s Amateur, becoming the first Australian to do this. She also reached the top 100 world amateur golf transcript (WAGR) and became number one in the transcript for the elderly golfers.
Throughout his career, Gole played in Australia, Japan and Europe, with the highlight of the victory at Danish Open of the Ladies’ European Tour system in 1996. After that, she stopped playing to build a family. When the children were mature, Gole returned to golf as amateur and quickly won many Senior championships in Australia and Asia.
“I always believe that golf is a sport for all ages, with friendships, trips and physical benefits,” Gole added. “I am only enjoying golf. Some areas in Hoiana Shores are great, making me remember when playing golf in Ireland. However, this week is very difficult because the playground is more than 10 to 15% compared to what I often play. I have to use wooden sticks to hit some green, while most girls just need iron sticks.
What Gole desired did not happen, when the tournament witnessed many talented young golfers. Only the top 50 was cut out among the 94 golfers attending the seventh event, and was the first time in Vietnam.
Gole started playing golf at the age of 12. It was also the age of Bao Chau, who came to golf from 5 years ago. Chau began to contact with golf in 2020, in the Covid-19 pandemic, when she and her father and her brother golf in the flower garden in front of the house.
After only a short time, Chau’s talent began to reveal. In 2024, Golf Vietnam won two victories and five times in the top 10 of the WAGR scoring events in Vietnam and also ranked 20th at Malaysian Women’s Amateur Open.
“I feel proud, happy and a little worried when I was here this week,” said Bao Chau’s excerpt, who asked his teammate Nguyen Viet Gia Han to translate in the first interview against international media.
The strong point of Chau is the ability to polish from Tee, with an average of 200 meters each. Standing at 710 in the WAGR transcript, Chau knew itself had a lot of time to improve, especially in short shots. Although not cut through, Waap is still a memorable experience with a 12 -year -old golfer.
The Asia -Pacific Women’s Championship is not only aimed at inspiring the future female golfer, but also offers the opportunity to “change life” to the champion through the top -proof of Major and amateur prizes. This event is of importance and scale equivalent to the Women’s Amateur Championship and the US Women’s Amateur (Asia Women’s Amateur. The winner will receive an invitation to attend the three Major Women’s British Open, Evian Championship and Chevron Championship, as well as other prestigious tournaments. |
