Trump Says He’s ‘Eager’ to Face Obama – Could a Third-Term Run Be Possible?

(PLO)- President Trump welcomes the idea of running against former President Obama in case the two are allowed to run for a third term.

On March 31, US President Donald Trump said he was “not considering” running for a third term, a day after saying he was “not joking” about the possibility of serving another term, according to CNN .

“The whole thing about running for a third term. I don’t know. I never looked into it. They say there’s a way you can do it, but I don’t know about it, and I haven’t looked into it,” Trump told reporters.

“That would be good. I’d love that,” President Trump said, adding that people had asked him to run for a third term.

Earlier, in an interview with NBC News , Mr. Trump said he was “not joking” about the possibility of serving a third term.

When asked how he would get to the White House for a third time, President Trump said there were “methods” to achieve this.

Republicans have reacted to the possibility of Mr Trump running for a third term, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune saying Mr Trump could not serve another term “without a change in the Constitution”.

Mr. Thune said that President Trump talked about the possibility of running for a third term as a way to provoke reporters.

White House officials and sources close to the Trump administration have largely avoided suggesting the president is serious about serving another term, seeing it as a way to mock critics and anger Democrats and the media.

“Look, you keep asking the president this question about a third term and he answers it honestly and directly with a smile, and then people here are talking about his answer,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters.
