THAT DAY 15 YEARS AGO we won the UEFA Champions League 2009/2010. Leave a like to wish that it can happen again this year!

In the last few hours, an official declaration of the President of Inter, Giuseppe Marotta, has shaken the Nerazzurri environment and the entire world of European football. Although the team is preparing for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, Marotta has released an announcement that no one expected: four fundamental players of the rose will leave the club in the next summer market window, regardless of the result of the Istanbul final.

This news came like a lightning bolt for serene for fans and professionals. In an interview granted to an Italian television network, the manager explained that it is a weighted decision, dictated by economic, technical and strategic considerations for the future of Inter. “Even if we had to win the Champions League, the time has come to renew and make difficult choices. The cycle of some players is about to end,” said Marotta in a stop.

The names of the players involved were not all made official, but according to sources close to the club, among the starters there are key elements that have contributed significantly to the successes of the last few years. The first name that circulates insistently is that of Denzel Dumfries. Although the Dutch outside is experiencing one of its best seasons in the Nerazzurri shirt, Inter would have decided to monetize its sale, thanks to the interest of several top clubs of the Premier League, including Manchester United and Chelsea. The player’s market value is around 40 million euros, a figure that would help to finance the engagement of new younger talents.

The second name that makes you discuss is that of Nicolò Barella. Even if it is a real column of the Inter midfield and an idol of the fans, some offers from abroad, in particular from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, would have pushed the management to consider a sensational assignment. Barella is evaluated over 70 million euros, and her departure could finance an important restyling of the midfield.

The third player destined to leave would be Stefan de Vrij. The Dutch defender, a pillar of the rear of the rear in recent years, has the contract expiring in 2026, but the club does not seem intent on further prolonging the agreement. The company would be ready to let him leave against an adequate offer, favoring the green line and focusing on younger and less expensive profiles in terms of engagement.

The fourth name is what most of all made the fans jump: Lautaro Martínez. The Argentine striker, captain and symbol of Inter, would have ended up in the sights of several Big European, including Real Madrid and Arsenal. Marotta has hinted that nobody is uninhabitable, and that every decision will be taken in the interest of the club. “In a modern football, flags can also change. Lautaro is a champion, but in front of certain figures he must reflect,” he said.

The reaction of the fans was immediate. On social networks, many expressed disappointment and concern for a possible demobilization of the team at the highest moment in its recent history. However, others understood the logic of the management, aware that in a football more and more conditioned by economic factors, even the most glorious clubs must be able to plan with foresight.

It should be emphasized that the financial situation of Inter, although improved compared to past years, remains fragile. The club still needs to generate capital gains to respect the parameters of financial fair play. In addition, the intention of renewing the squad and lowering the average age also passes through painful but necessary choices.

Marotta concluded her interview with a message to the fans: “I understand emotions, but I ask you confidence. All we do is for the good of Inter. We want to build a team that can remain competitive in the years to come, both in Italy and in Europe”.

Waiting for the Champions League final, where Inter dream of returning to lift the trophy after the triumph of 2010, the shadow of the market already looms on the fate of many players. The Nerazzurri summer promises to be fiery, between dreams of glory and decisions that could radically change the face of the team.

If Marotta is right or not, only time will say it. But one thing is certain: the Inter of the future will be very different from the current one. And even in the case of triumph in Istanbul, nobody can sleep peacefully.
