McLaren’s rivals raised concerns over how it was controlling its rear tyre temperatures. The FIA have put an end to the speculation once and for all.

It has been reported that following an intensive post-Miami Grand Prix inspection, the FIA has decided that McLaren’s rear brake design is legal.

According to The Race, multiple checks, including a detailed inspection was undertaken by motorsport’s governing body following the race at the Miami International Autodrome. 

It concluded that its rear brake design was completely legal, despite intrigue into how the MCL39 controls its rear tyre temperatures. 

McLaren’s rivals raised concerns over how the Woking-based team was cooling the outer surface of its rear brake drum, with an inability to understand how it was being done having led to questions if a grey area was being exploited. 

It is believed that thermal images obtained by Red Bull from a third party had been shown to the FIA, showing cold spots on McLaren’s rear brake drums. 

The Race understands that the FIA thoroughly inspected McLaren’s braking system, drums and ducts, with nothing illegal having been discovered.

An official FIA document surrounding the results of the inspection is yet to be published, with it being possible that this could surface the night before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
