Max Verstappen accepts its guilt in the controversial collision with George Russell during the F1 GP GP

Max Verstappen has accepted his responsibility in the controversial incident with George Russell during the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1. The Dutch pilot ended up colliding his Red Bull against the side of Russell’s mercedes while trying to let him pass during the race in Barcelona.

For many, this maneuver deserved a black flag. The incident was the culmination of a series of events that did not favor Verstappen. It all started when he found hard tires for the period after the security car, while all the others had soft tires.

Then came the incidents with Charles Leclerc and George Russell during the resumption, and then the order of the team so that Verstappen gave the position to the Mercedes pilot. The sum of all this led to the clash, and to some surprise, Verstappen indirectly recognized in social networks that he had been wrong.

Looking ahead to the Canada Grand Prix, the pilot faced the media again and accepted his guilt for the incident. Speaking to the press, including Motorsport, said:

“Of course, as I said, it was not right at that time. It was a calculation error, clearly, in the curve, but it is not necessary to go into details of why, how and what. We all make mistakes in life. We all learn from them and we simply move on.”

Added:

“They were a very frustrating laps in a row. They pushed me on the line, I almost crashed with the hard tires. Then they pushed me into the curve 1. Then they tell me that I have to return the position. I thought, that makes no sense. So there were many things that gathered.”

Max Verstappen is not worried about the possible career suspension on his head

Verstappen was asked about the possible career suspension he could face, since he has accumulated 11 penalty points. The pilot said he will continue to compete as always. If you receive one more point this weekend, you will be sanctioned with the suspension for the Austria Grand Prix, the Red Bull House race.

On the penalty points and if they will influence their way of driving, he said (according to Motorsport):

“No, nothing has changed. Why should it?

Currently, Verstappen is 49 points behind Oscar Piestri in the championship, and although the race in Canada may not be the most favorable for Red Bull, it will be interesting to see how it faces the weekend.
