When US President Donald Trump ordered an unexpected air strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities without asking for permission from the National Assembly, many defenders of Mr. Trump pointed out that former President Obama has taken the same action at the current.

In the post on June 22 on the X -social network X of the Podcast ALEC Lace host, the paragraph: “In 2016 – Mr. Barack Obama dropped 26,171 bombs on Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan without being allowed by the National Assembly.

Through verification, Snopes on June 25 said that the aforementioned statement about the former President Obama was right in that he was not allowed by the US Congress to conduct these military activities.

Snopes experts have reviewed the database and reports since 2016 on air strikes and operations using Mr. Obama’s unmanned aircraft and allies, in order to verify the number of air strikes approved by him.

In 2014, the United States and partners of the Union launched the Inherent Resolve campaign (roughly shut out) to fight the Islamic State (IS). The air strikes in Iraq and Syria are conducted by a driving and unmanned plane.

According to data from the US Air Force Center Command, in 2016 alone, the alliance dropped a total of 30,743 weapons in these two countries.

Analysis from the External Relations Council Council shows that the United States implemented 79% of the air strikes in Iraq and Syria in 2016, with 24,287 bombs directly responsible by Washington.

In addition, during the Enduring Sentinel campaign in Afghanistan, the US released a total of 1,337 weapons from the aircraft and unmanned, according to the investigation department’s data – an independent media agency.

Data from Long War Journal (belonging to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies) and New America organization showed that, in 2016, the US made about 513 air strikes in Libya, 43 in Yemen, 14 in Somalia and 3 in Pakistan.

Summary of the above figures, Snopes experts said: In 2016 alone, the US released more than 26,000 bombs in seven countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan.

In 1973, the US Congress passed the resolution of the war rights to ensure the legislative agency had a voice in determining the US’s participation in any armed conflict.

However, the National Assembly has also enacted many laws that authorize the use of armed forces (AUMF), allowing the President to conduct limited and clear military actions. In fact, these Aumfs are often widely interpreted to legalize many forms of military attacks.

In 2001, the US National Assembly passed AumF that allowed military actions against “those responsible for attacks on September 11”. By 2002, another Aumf was approved to allow the use of force against Iraq.

According to the 2016 Analysis of the Research Center for the US advancement, Obama’s government has cited the two AumFs to legalize unmanned aircraft attacks.
