On June 17, 2025, at 10:37 AM (CEST), the world’s tech and automotive manufacturers made their presence felt with an announcement from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Xai. Musk unveiled an innovative advancement in battery technology: a new lithium-metal battery, promising a battery costing over £1,000 million. When Tesla’s Gigafactory in Xai was unveiled, it signaled potential for the development of electric vehicles (EVs) and a sustainable energy supply.
The advance
Musk anticipates using a state-of-the-art metal battery because its energy density and charging speed are previously limited. Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, it’s a new design made of a single metal, significantly increasing capacity and ensuring safety. “It’s the future of transportation,” Musk explained during a broadcast to the public. The battery was charged to 80% in 15 minutes. Our initial tests seem to indicate that the technology could be scaled down to more than 1,000 million or limited to 400 million in Tesla’s two main models, such as the Model S.
Tesla developers enjoy additional benefits, including a 30% reduction in the production costs we provide. Musk was enthusiastic about his vision of the world’s transition to sustainable energy and could potentially disrupt the electric vehicle market dominated by competitors like BYD and Rivian.
Industry reaction
I’m very grateful to you in the industry today. Since Tesla cost 12% in pre-sales, manufacturers pointed out that this could have an impact. Analyzing X on innovation with a US contribution: “Musk is new – 1,000 milhas a week for a whole year!” We also warn that the production and safety certificates are generally valid until the end of 2026.
The environmental group stated that they were required to file reports as carbon emitters and were still addressing the question of whether they were linked to the balance sheet. Musk called for “full support” to mitigate risks.
What are you waiting for?
Tesla launched the first vehicles with a new battery, the pilot program for which was limited to 2026, and production was completed by 2027. Musk also teased applications with potential for two cars, including powering the data centers of the AI XAI. We’re constantly working on it, but the company is convinced that the specialists for a demonstration of the ports aren’t nearby.
