Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll moved into a new Surrey home after the US Open, with the Masters champion aiming to capture another US PGA Championship victory.
After a triumphant moment in April when he secured his first green jacket at Augusta National, beating Justin Rose in a play-off to claim a remarkable Grand Slam, McIlroy’s eyes are now set on dominating the US PGA at Quail Hollow, a course where he has had previous success.
Meanwhile, off the streets, the Hollywood favorite and his family are preparing for their own housewarming. A brand-new, newly built house in Surrey, a stone’s throw from London, is ready for the McIlroys’ arrival.
The family is currently soaking up the sun in Jupiter, Florida, where McIlroy purchased a mansion in 2017 from fellow golfer Ernie Els, within the luxurious confines of the Bear golf club community.
However, her better half, who had a divorce filed against her in 2024 before their differences were settled, has made it clear that the Floridian heat isn’t her cup of tea. Now, it seems her wish to spend more time in the colder UK has been granted, reports the Mirror US.
At the height of the Netflix docuseries, McIlroy touched on the topic while chatting with German pro Martin Kaymer. Kaymer shared the anecdote: “I saw her [Stoll] at Starbucks once, and she said, ‘I don’t really like the sunshine.’ I said, ‘Your state’s been called the Sunshine State, right? ’”
The Northern Ireland golfer continued: “If it were up to her [Stoll], she wouldn’t move to England right away, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.”
Suggestions of a UK home also surfaced after McIlroy’s nail-biting victory at the Players Championship, where his playoff rival JJ Spaun inadvertently mentioned that McIlroy was setting up shop in England.
McIlroy will move into the house this summer.
Chatting on the Fore Play podcast about his interactions during the TPC Sawgrass Showdown, Spaun shared, “It’s really cool. We were just talking about the UK.
“I know he’s Northern Irish, but I asked him if he ever hangs out in London. Because my wife has a very good friend who lives there and loves going there. He said, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m building a house.’”
The Telegraph has confirmed that McIlroy is putting down roots in Wentworth, Surrey, with a residence ready for him, his wife Stoll and daughter Poppy to move into after the US Open in June.
“Straight after Augusta, we traveled to see the house while it was going through the finishing touches,” McIlroy excitedly told the Telegraph. “It was fun to see, and we could have stayed there, but we wanted to get to Hollywood.”
While Florida will continue to be the family’s primary hub when McIlroy competes on the PGA Tour, there is speculation they could eventually make a full-time move to England.
As reported by the Sun, the newly built property, located near the famous Wentworth Golf Club, is said to have cost between £10 million and £14 million to build. It also reportedly features a vast entertainment room and a 44-foot-long entertainment hall, along with indoor and outdoor pools.
