📢 FIA releases Piastri test results after taking samples from McLaren drivers following Austrian Grand Prix. McLaren and Red Bull bosses have also joined the test.

The Formula 1 world has turned its attention to McLaren following the recent Austrian Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri’s car was subjected to extensive checks. The FIA has released the results of these analyses, and the outcome confirms that McLaren is fully compliant with the regulations. The Australian driver, who finished an impressive second at the Red Bull Ring, saw his result upheld after the inspections, while his team-mate Lando Norris took the victory. This one-two finish once again underlines McLaren’s dominance in the 2025 season.

After the race, the FIA published a detailed control document, stating that samples of fuel and engine oil had been taken from Piastri’s car. This is standard procedure after a Grand Prix, with the FIA ensuring that all teams comply with the technical regulations. Both samples were analysed and found to be fully compliant, meaning they were approved for use ahead of the race. Piastri thus passed all inspections and retained his well-deserved podium finish, a result that reflects his consistent performance this season.

The Austrian Grand Prix was a triumph for McLaren, who put a tumultuous race in Canada behind them. In Montreal, Norris crashed after an intense battle with Piastri, but in Austria both drivers kept their cool. They swapped positions in a thrilling fight for the lead, which fortunately did not end in an accident. Norris eventually took victory, his first since Monaco, and strengthened his position in the championship. Piastri, who was hot on the heels of his team-mate, again proved his speed and consistency with a strong second place.

After the race, there were concerns about the wear on the underbody of Norris’ car, a crucial component that is subject to strict regulations. Excessive wear on the underbody can lead to disqualification, but the FIA confirmed that Norris’ McLaren was fully legal. This brought relief to the team, which now looks forward to the upcoming races with confidence. The one-two finish in Austria was not only a sporting triumph, but also a mental boost after the disappointment in Canada.

In the championship, the battle between Norris and Piastri remains fierce. Only 15 points separate the two McLaren drivers, with Norris currently second in the standings. Max Verstappen, who suffered a costly DNF in Austria after a collision, is a whopping 46 points ahead of Norris. This setback has dented the Dutchman’s title chances, while McLaren are benefiting from their strong form. The Woking-based team’s dominance is evident, with the MCL40 consistently scoring points and regularly finishing on the podium.

The involvement of McLaren and Red Bull team principals in the post-race checks underscores the importance of these inspections. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella and Red Bull’s Christian Horner were on hand to monitor the procedures, a sign that both teams are taking FIA regulations seriously. For McLaren, the approval of Piastri’s car was a testament to their technical excellence, while Red Bull, struggling with underperformance, are focused on returning to form.

For fans, the Austrian Grand Prix was a spectacle that perfectly illustrated the excitement of Formula 1 in 2025. McLaren’s one-two finish, combined with Verstappen’s dramatic retirement, has further intensified the championship battle. With a few races to go, the question remains who will ultimately emerge victorious. Norris and Piastri have shown themselves ready to fight for the top, while Verstappen is determined to make up the deficit. The Formula 1 community is eagerly awaiting the next showdown, with McLaren clearly a team to watch.
