China “Tears Off” America’s Mask, Urges World to Oppose President Donald Trump

On April 29, 2025, China escalated its rhetorical offensive against the United States, with state media and officials declaring they have “torn off” America’s mask of global leadership. In a bold statement, Beijing accused President Donald Trump of destabilizing the world through unilateral trade policies, military posturing, and diplomatic bullying. Urging nations to unite against Trump’s “reckless” agenda, China positioned itself as a champion of multilateralism, intensifying a geopolitical showdown that has gripped international attention.

The catalyst was Trump’s recent imposition of 15% tariffs on $300 billion in Chinese goods, coupled with sanctions on Chinese tech firms like Huawei. Beijing’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, condemned these moves as “economic coercion,” arguing they expose U.S. hypocrisy in preaching free markets while punishing competitors. State-run Global Times ran a scathing editorial, claiming Trump’s policies reveal America’s intent to suppress rising powers. China called on the Global South, BRICS nations, and even U.S. allies to resist what it termed “hegemonic overreach.”

China’s appeal has found traction. At a BRICS summit in March 2025, leaders from Brazil, India, and South Africa echoed Beijing’s call for a multipolar world, criticizing U.S. sanctions as disruptive. Russia, a close ally, pledged deeper economic ties with China to counter Trump’s measures. In Africa, where China has invested $200 billion in infrastructure, leaders praised Beijing’s “win-win” model over America’s “zero-sum” approach. Posts on X reflect global sentiment, with users in Nigeria and Indonesia lauding China’s defiance, though some in Europe remain skeptical of Beijing’s motives.

Domestically, China has rallied its 1.4 billion citizens around this narrative. Xi Jinping, in a televised address, framed resistance to Trump as a defense of national dignity, boosting his approval ratings. The government has accelerated efforts to decouple from U.S. markets, redirecting $100 billion to domestic tech and green energy. Chinese firms like BYD have captured 20% of the global electric vehicle market, undermining U.S. competitors. This economic resilience has allowed China to absorb tariff impacts, with GDP growth projected at 4.8% for 2025.

The U.S. response has been defiant. Trump, speaking at a rally in Ohio, dismissed China’s campaign as “desperate propaganda” and vowed to double down on tariffs to protect American jobs. However, his strategy risks alienating allies. The EU, frustrated by secondary sanctions, has refused to join the U.S. trade war, while Japan and South Korea tread cautiously. U.S. consumers face rising costs, with inflation at 3.9%, fueling domestic discontent.

China’s call to action marks a pivotal moment. By framing Trump as a global threat, Beijing seeks to reshape alliances and trade networks. While its rhetoric resonates in parts of the world, critics warn of China’s own authoritarian agenda. As tensions mount, the international community watches closely, weighing whether to heed Beijing’s rallying cry or navigate a middle path in an increasingly polarized global order.
