The speech of US President Donald Trump was made among Russia and Ukraine accused each other in violation of a ceasefire agreement on Easter.
“Hopefully Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement this week. The two will then have a great opportunity to do business with the United States and make money,” US President Donald Trump posted on the Truth Social.
Mr. Trump’s comments came shortly after he threatened to completely withdraw the US support from the Russian -Ukrainian peace process if either of the sides hindered the negotiations.

The statement was properly given to Easter, the time when the temporary ceasefire ordered in Ukraine was expected to take effect. One day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the implementation of the “resurrection ceasefire”, pledged to stop all military activities until midnight April 21. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia for violating a ceasefire more than 2,000 times since that statement.
Ukraine and the United States called Russia to extend the ceasefire after the Easter and proceed to a comprehensive ceasefire agreement lasting 30 days. However, according to the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, President Putin did not give any instructions about this.
Economic benefits play a key role in the Trump administration’s approach to both Ukraine and Russia. Since taking office, the Trump administration has made a normal move with Russia, emphasizing the desire to strengthen economic cooperation. After the phone call between Mr. Trump and his Putin counterpart on March 18, the Kremlin said the two leaders were interested in the development of “mutual cooperation” in many fields. The White House later also emphasized the potential to achieve the “huge economic agreements” between the two countries.
White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt on April 15 declared “economic partnership” with the US could be the motivation for Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine.
The Trump administration is also pursuing a mineral agreement with Ukraine, whereby the US will take great control over the revenue from Kiev’s natural resources – something Washington thinks that deserves to be in exchange for military assistance to Ukraine. However, this agreement does not include any specific security commitment to protect Ukraine from the risk of being attacked by Russia.
