BREAKING NEWS🛑 Mick Schumacher has signed a contract with Alpine, which will begin after Franco Colapinto’s five-race contract. The former Haas F1 driver will start with five races in Singapore.

The Formula 1 world is in turmoil following the announcement that Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has signed a contract with Alpine for the 2025 season. The contract, which begins after Franco Colapinto’s five races, marks the 26-year-old German’s long-awaited return to the Formula 1 grid, with his debut for Alpine at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. This development comes after a period of intense speculation surrounding Schumacher’s future, particularly following his impressive performances in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine and his departure as reserve driver at Mercedes at the end of 2024. Fans and analysts are eager to see how Schumacher will perform in this new opportunity with the French team.

Schumacher, who raced for Haas in 2021 and 2022, lost his seat after a challenging period in which he struggled to perform consistently alongside teammate Nikita Mazepin. After leaving Haas, he became a reserve driver at Mercedes, providing valuable feedback in the simulator and test-driving the W13 and W15 cars. Simultaneously, he embarked on a new adventure in the WEC with Alpine in 2024, achieving podium finishes at the 6 Hours of Fuji, Imola, and Spa-Francorchamps. His impressive adaptation to the endurance racing mentality, praised by Alpine team principal Bruno Famin, made him a serious contender for a Formula 1 comeback. According to Motorsport-Magazin.com, Schumacher tested the Alpine A522 at Le Castellet in 2024, which laid the foundation for his current contract.

Schumacher’s contract follows a temporary agreement with Franco Colapinto, the Argentinian driver who will drive five races for Alpine in 2025. Colapinto, who impressed at Williams in 2024 as Logan Sargeant’s replacement, will have a chance to prove himself before Schumacher takes over the seat alongside Pierre Gasly, who is expected to retain his place at Alpine. The decision to sign Schumacher comes after a tumultuous season for Alpine, which sits seventh in the Constructors’ Championship in 2025. The team, which has struggled since the departure of Esteban Ocon, hopes Schumacher’s experience and determination will provide a boost. Famin previously stated that Schumacher did an “incredible job” in the WEC, particularly with his collaborative approach and speed, making him a natural choice for Formula 1.

The announcement has sparked a wave of reaction on platforms like X, with fans sharing their excitement with messages like “Mick is back! This is his chance to shine!” Others have been more cautious, pointing to his mixed performance at Haas and the high expectations placed on him by his surname. Former driver Ralf Schumacher, his uncle, publicly supported Mick, calling him “a driver with speed” who deserves another chance. Still, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner warned that Alpine needs to focus on top drivers, raising questions about the pressure on Schumacher to perform. His five-race contract, starting in Singapore, provides a short but crucial window to prove he belongs in Formula 1.

Schumacher’s return coincides with a broader restructuring at Alpine, which will introduce a new engine in 2026 and may consider a partnership with Porsche, as reported by Motorsport-Total. The 2025 Formula 1 grid is almost completely filled, with the exception of a seat at RB, which will likely go to Liam Lawson. Schumacher, previously considered for a seat at Sauber (future Audi), saw that opportunity disappear when Gabriel Bortoleto was chosen. Now, at Alpine, he has the opportunity to convince his critics. His focus is on capitalizing on this opportunity, as he himself stated: “Formula 1 has always been my dream, but I give 100 percent in every race.” With Alpine’s backing and his experience in endurance racing, Schumacher faces a crucial phase in his career. As Singapore approaches, the Formula 1 world will be watching him closely, curious to see if he can live up to his father’s legacy.
