Napoli still have the advantage in the standings, but it is now reduced to the bare minimum. Inter did their duty by beating Torino 2-0 away, while the Partenopei drew 2-2 against Genoa, after having taken the lead twice. This means that there is now only one point of difference between the two teams at the top of the standings.

For Inter, this is very positive news in the race to defend their title as champions of Italy. The Nerazzurri now know that another misstep by Napoli would be enough to leap to the top. Even a draw by the Azzurri, combined with two victories against Lazio and Como, could guarantee Inter the decisive overtaking.

Furthermore, the chances of a play-off between the two contenders to determine the winner of the championship are decreasing. Either Inter will finish ahead of Napoli, or behind, but unlikely to have the same number of points.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport questions the risks of such a choice. Using the maximum resources in Serie A could cost dearly in the European final, where freshness and clarity will be needed against an opponent of the caliber of PSG.
