Barcelona’s January Deal for Rashford Collapsed Due to Ansu Fati — Romano
Barcelona had a deal in place to sign Marcus Rashford during the January transfer window, but the move collapsed after Ansu Fati refused to leave, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Despite receiving offers from clubs like Sevilla and Besiktas, Fati chose to stay and fight for his place at Camp Nou. As a result, Rashford’s long-anticipated move to Barcelona was blocked.
With the transfer off, Rashford instead joined Aston Villa on loan, though his desire to play for Barcelona remains intact. Romano notes there is still a slim chance the move could be revived this summer, particularly if Ansu Fati completes a permanent transfer to AS Monaco, which remains a strong possibility.
However, Luis Díaz is currently Barcelona’s top priority, with the Liverpool winger seen as a more attainable and strategic target—though his €80 million price tag remains a significant hurdle.
