Inter Milan and Barcelona equal Champions League record that nobody thought was possible during insane tie
The Serie A champions and La Liga leaders put on an entertaining spectacle at the San Siro in the Champions League semi-finals.
Inter Milan and Barcelona equalled a record which seemed impossible during their Champions League semi-final as a 4-3 win (7-6 on aggregrate), saw the Italians progress to the final.
The sides came into Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg with the scores level on aggregate at 3-3 after last week’s exciting draw in Barcelona.
And ahead of kick-off, the media’s focus was on 17-year-old Barca prospect Lamine Yamal, who has gone from strength to strength under the tutelage of Barca head coach Hansi Flick this term.
But it was Inter who started stronger as they went ahead thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s strike 21 minutes into proceedings at the San Siro.
On the stroke of half-time, the Serie A side went two up after Hakan Calhanoglu slotted home a penalty.
However, in typical Barcelona fashion, the Catalan side fought back via an Eric Garcia volley on 54 minutes before Dani Olmo levelled the tie at 2-2 on the night and 5-5 on aggregate on the hour mark.
Flick’s side dominated the second 45 minutes and thought they had won it three minutes from time when Raphinha smashed past Yann Sommer to put Barca 6-5 up on aggregate.
And just when the fans gathered inside the San Siro thought it was over, 37-year-old defender Francesco Acerbi produced a tidy finish in the 94th minute to send the match to extra time.

Then, on 99 minutes, Davide Frattesi curled a left-footed strike past the helpless Wojciech Szczęsny, sending the home fans into bedlam by putting Inter 7-6 up on aggregate and in doing so equalled a record.
The record was for the most goals in a Champions League knockout tie, equalling Liverpool’s 7-6 aggregate victory against Roma in the 2017/18 edition of the competition – also in a semi-final.
“I feel shattered watching it,” Alan Shearer said on commentary for Prime Video. “Goodness knows what those players feel out there.”
