WASHINGTON (TND) — During a Wednesday hearing in President Joe Biden’s impeachment inquiry, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., engaged in a tense exchange with a witness whose testimony she said did not satisfy Republicans’ accusations of high crimes by the president.
“Is it your testimony today that you personally witnessed President Joe Biden commit a crime?” Rep.Ocasio-Cortez asked Tony Bobulinski, a former associate of the president’s son Hunter.
When Bobulinski began to answer, AOC cut him off by repeating the question. She then demanded he name specific crimes he witnessed Biden commit.
“You asked me to answer the question, I answered the question,” Bobulinski said. “RICO, you’re obviously not familiar with, corruption [inaudible].”
Excuse me, sir,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez interjected. “RICO is not a crime. It is a category.”
The two continued bickering back and forth before AOC reclaimed her time.
“Clearly what we are seeing here today is a continuation of the fifteen-month saga of the Republican majority lost in the desert,” she said.

The representative continued, claiming House Republicans have failed to accuse Biden of a “high crime,” which is a requirement for impeachment.
At this point, the story is not the fact that the basis of this impeachment inquiry is wrong,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said. “The story is why its proceeding anyway. Why is this committee proceeding based on false charges?”
President Trump was notably charged with violating Georgia RICO statues last year. The former president has vehemently fought against the charges brought against him in Georgia, which relate to his effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez continues to walk a tightrope between moderate Democrats who hope to see Biden regain the White House in November and progressive hardliners who remain disappointed in the president’s handling of the Gaza conflict. During Biden’s State of the Union address, AOC didn’t go as far as some of her “Squad” colleagues in protesting Israel, though she wore a pin with the colors of the Palestinian flag.
