In mid-March 2025, a screenshot circulated widely on social media showing a post from an account resembling US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social account.

“After I annex Greenland and make it the 52nd state, I will annex Alaska. The people of Alaska do not want to be part of a backward country in Canada. I will make all Alaskans rich and prosperous as they become the 53rd state of our great country….”, this account wrote.
Fake image of President Donald Trump’s Alaska annexation message.
However, according to Reuters, this information is completely false, the screenshot is fake.
There is no evidence that President Trump posted the relevant message on Truth Social or any other social media account.
Furthermore, the claims in this fake post are untrue. For example, Alaska is not part of Canada. It was declared the 49th state of the United States in 1959.
On March 10, Trump’s Truth Social account linked to a Fox News article about Alaska with the headline: “Alaska leaders applaud [President] Trump’s executive order on oil and gas drilling.”
Or in January, President Trump issued an executive order reversing drilling restrictions imposed by former President Joe Biden and opening up oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Reuters added that President Trump posted at least 65 original posts on Truth Social — including two that have since been deleted — that mentioned Alaska, whether in text, images, videos or links to articles, according to a Reuters analysis.
But there are no posts showing him suggesting Alaska should become the 53rd US state.
