The Formula 1 world is once again in flames after it emerged that Max Verstappen has rejected a staggering $80 million-a-year contract offer from a fledgling racing team – reportedly backed by a consortium of US and Saudi investors that wants to enter the sport from 2026.

But what really set this story off was the leak of a personal, emotional letter Verstappen wrote to his current team, Red Bull Racing. Originally intended for team management Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, the letter was mysteriously shared via an anonymous source and spread like wildfire across social media and international sports media within hours.
