Lionel Messi was involved in a brief scuffle with PSG’s midfielder in Inter Miami’s defeat in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Messi would have hit the vitinha
The Argentine superstar was accused of unsportsmanlike behaviour when Vititinha easily beat him and kept the ball, before Messi appeared to react by swinging his hand at his former teammate.
Fans were quick to criticize Messi. Esnomanu wrote on social media: “What did Messi do when he punched Vitinha? He doesn’t know how to accept failure, what a bad player.”
Alexandre Carvalho commented: “I see a disoriented man, unable to bear it when the person he hates becomes a top player.”
An anti-monovocoe account added: “Vittinha taught Messi a lesson today.” Talkinmadrid posted: “Bro, what did Messi do that made him so annoying?”
Fortunately, there was nothing serious and the two hugged after the match.
Fortunately, the tension between the two seemed to be quickly resolved when the two were caught hugging after the whistle. PSG even posted this image on the club’s official social media accounts.
Messi and Vitinha were once rumored to have a falling out while playing together at PSG, though Vitinha later denied it. The Portuguese player is currently a sublime player in the French capital, a key factor in coach Luis Enrique’s starting lineup and a key figure in helping PSG win the treble in the 2024/25 season.
After being eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup , Messi and Inter Miami will return to MLS action. Meanwhile, PSG will face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals.
