Xabi Alonso will reportedly inform David Alaba that he is not in his plans for the upcoming season. The Austrian defender has struggled with injuries and will be free to leave if he chooses.
According to Defensa Central, Alonso will speak to Alaba on Monday as he begins pre-season preparations with Real Madrid. The new manager wants to be clear with his squad from the start and will also meet players like Rodrygo on the same day.
In Alaba’s case, the message will be direct: “In principle, we’re not counting on you, but if you want to stay, you’ll be one more.” Alonso will not push him out but will not promise minutes either. The club have agreed to let him look for another team.
Alaba, whose contract runs until 2026, is one of the highest-paid players in the squad. He wants to stay, but his recent knee injuries and lack of consistent fitness have raised doubts. A move would likely mean accepting lower wages and a less demanding environment.
