The FIA has announced a late sanction for Max Verstappen in the Grand Prix of Spain that saw it degraded to the P10 after colliding twice with its F1 rival, George Russell.
Verstappen and Russell collided with each other twice in just a few laps, after a late security car in the Spain Grand Prix, which caused Verstappen to receive a penalty of 10 seconds.
Upon reaching the main line, both Charles Leclerc and Russell seemed to be able to overcome Verstappen after he suffered a survival, but he and Russell played.
Then they collided once again when Red Bull told Verstappen to let Russell pass, and then accelerated once again and seemed intentionally the wheels with the Mercedes star.
Immediately after the end of the race, Verstappen received a penalty of 10 seconds by the FIA career commissioners, relegating it to the tenth place in the GP of Spain.
The day of Verstappen goes from bad to worse
The last moment descent of the four -time Verstappen champion caused a lot of changes in the outcome of the race, and Nico Hulkenberg obtained an impressive sum of 10 points for Sauber with a fifth place.
This also means that Verstappen has greatly lost in its battle for the pilot championship, with Oscar Piastri winning the race and the other protagonist of the championship, Lando Norris, arriving in second place.
Verstappen is now 49 points behind Piastri in the pilot championship, while the hopes of a fifth consecutive title begin to fade.
Live in the Sky Sports F1 transmission, Nico Rosberg considered that Verstappen should have been severely punished for his collision with Russell.
“It is a very indulgent sanction, from my point of view,” he said after the announcement of the penalty of 10 seconds of Verstappen. “Remember Sebastian Vettel against Lewis Hamilton in Baku in 2017.”
