“Donald Trump is pursuing and pushing an agenda that is the opposite of the conservative agenda that we have run for our entire four years. That is why I cannot in good conscience support him in this campaign,” Mike Pence said in an interview with Fox News on March 15.
“During the campaign, I made it clear that there are profound differences between me and Mr. Trump on a whole range of issues,” he added.
Mike Pence was in the race for the 2024 US presidential election, but decided to withdraw in October last year and has not endorsed any candidate. However, he previously affirmed that he would support the eventual Republican candidate.
Responding to Mr Pence’s statement, Mr Trump said: “I picked him, I made him vice president, but people in politics can be disloyal.”
Mr. Pence served as vice president during Mr. Trump’s term from 2017 to 2021. However, their relationship became more fractured and distant after Mr. Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol building to prevent Congress from recognizing Democratic candidate Joe Biden as president on January 6, 2021.
