Fernando Alonso gave a damning assessment of Aston Martin’s 2025 car over the radio during the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix last week.
The Saudi Grand Prix saw F1 get a new championship leader in the form of Oscar Piastri who leapfrogged his McLaren teammate Lando Norris following victory in Jeddah.
However, one of the key stories from the race came further down the grid, with Alonso becoming infuriated with the performance of his Aston Martin.
The 42-year-old is yet to score a point this season after finishing 11th in Saudi, with all 10 of Aston Martin’s points coming from Lance Stroll.
During last week’s race, Alonso was in constant dialogue with his race engineer, and the Spaniard was clearly baffled by the machine he had under him.
“I can’t do it. If I lose the DRS [of the car in front of him] I’m dead,” he said.
“I don’t know how I could have lost the DRS having had DRS on the previous lap.
“I can’t maintain this pace. It’s crazy. The level of risk… is incredible. Pushing at this level is not sustainable,” he added.
Following the chequered flag, Alonso claimed that in order to finish inside the top 10 he would need multiple cars to crash out to give him a chance.
“We need three or four cars to finish out of the race to score a point,” he claimed.

After the race Alonso reiterated how difficult it was to keep pace with the cars around him in his Aston Martin.
“I gave everything on track and it was hard to keep up the pace with the cars in front – we were just not quick enough,” he said via F1.com
P11 is the worst position probably, but we need to get used to it. It’s going to be difficult to score points this year.”
