Lando Norris has been ‘unmasked’ when he revealed that he has been testing cars in a completely different series while fighting for his first F1 championship.
Norris had a perfect beginning in the 2025 F1 season in Australia, where he fought against Max Verstappen in difficult conditions to achieve victory.
While the McLaren star still leads the championship, the three races have since been far from being perfect: his teammate Oscar Piestri won twice and Verstappen was the first to take the checkered flag in Japan.
Piastri dominated in Bahrain while Norris struggled to overcome Charles Leclerc and get on the podium after a disappointing classification for the British.
After his sixth place on Saturday, Norris said he felt as if “he had never driven a F1 car before” and that there could be a very good reason for it.
According to former Williams team director, Peter Windsor, Norris has been testing rally cars in “secret extreme” outside his functions in McLaren.
This comes after it was confirmed last summer that an anonymous active pilot was testing WRC cars, and many initially suspected of Verstappen or Valtteri Bottas.
As expected, given their credentials in the F1, Windsor has affirmed that Norris’s performances in WRC tests have been very impressive.
Speaking on the YouTube channel of Cameron CC, Windsor explained that Norris was the mysterious driver.
“I know that Lando is a great WRC fan,” he began.
“And I hope not to reveal too many secrets when I say that I have been in WRC cars and it’s incredibly good.”
It should not be a big surprise to hear that Norris has been behind the steering wheel, since he previously admitted that the WRC scene is something that interests him a lot.
Speaking in Quadrant, while reacting to the videos of the Rally of 2022, Norris said: “It’s the most great in the world.”
“I would like to try one. I also feel that I would die in one,” he joked.
