Before that, according toXinhua, in a statement on April 11, the tariff committee of the China Institute’s Council announced that Beijing would increase additional taxes on goods imported from the US to 125%. This tax starts to take effect from April 12.
The Chinese Tariff Commission said that Washington’s imposition of unusually high tariffs on Beijing goods was “seriously violating international trade rules, contrary to basic and common economic laws and this was an act of bullying and forcing unilaterally”.
According to this committee, even if the US continues to apply higher tariffs, it is no longer economically significant and “will become a joke in world economic history”.
“With the current tariffs, US goods exported to China are not likely to be accepted by the market. China will not pay attention if the US continues to impose tariffs on Chinese goods exported to the US,” the Chinese Tariff Committee said.
